Brief Description:  Wing and Tank Skin Installation

Today, I completed attaching the conduit to the ribs with tie wraps. I added anti-chafe (door edge guard) to both sides of the ribs prior to attaching the conduit. I also removed the upper wing skin and began to work on correcting a few rib flanges where I mis-drilled the holes. I had five flanges on the upper wing skin main ribs, and four flanges on the leading edge ribs, upper and lower. I did one for a test by adding a same thickness stiffener underneath the rib flange, flush riveted it, and drilled the holes in the correct place. The problem came about when drilling holes in the ribs through the wing skin. The ribs are difficult to manhandle in place without fluting, and at times the drill will move the underlying material in the drilling process. Most use very sharp awls to hold the flange in place in the next hole, but it is still a very difficult process. Luckily, I only had a few flanges where the holes were mis-drilled. I've seen pictures from others with quite a few problems.

Tomorrow, our EAA Chapter Techincal Counselor is going to look at the wing before I close it up next week.
