Whilst completing the Centre Section I noted on the drawing a reference to the Rear Rudder Pedal Kit so I pulled it out and read the instructions and Drawing OP-5. I then noted that F-8118 bracket is attached to F-802-H Aft Corner Angle of the Landing Gear Assembly, which was already assembled!
I checked the LG Assembly drawing (62) and there was no mention of the Rear Rudder Pedal Option, nor in the build manual instructons. I could not back drill F-8118 so I came up with the following solution:
1. Remove the two aft inboard bolts on each F-802-H Aft Corner Angle 2. Place some masking tape on back of F-8118 and cleco/clamp in position. 3. Use a sharpie and place ink on the end of an AN3 bolt, insert from the rear and rotate. 4. Un cleco/clamp and note inked circle. 5. Drill hole to #12. or ream to 3/16". Debur/prime as required. Ream end 1/4" holes for AN4 5. Bolt F-8118 to LG Assembly (AN3-6A from Rudder Pedal Kit for outboard bolt)
I will write to Vans and suggest DWG 62/Build Manual is amended to save wasting time!
