On Friday 13th June I visited Andy and Ellie Hill to view their beautiful RV8 (G-HILZ) to take some photographs and borrow the fuselage stand to save wear and tear on my back in the next phase of the build.
The greatest surprise was Andy said would l Iike to come up for a spin? I had an RV Grin ready and waiting! The aircraft was better than I expected, an absolute delight and considering I hadn't flown aeros for 10 years I was pretty pleased with my stall turn and barrel roll though my g tolerance was bordering on pathetic as I struggled a bit on the 3g pull up!
The paint job on this has to be seen - it is brilliant.
Andy and Ellie (both British Airways Captains and lovers of all things flying) were very kind to furnish me with Bed and Breakfast at their lovely home in leafy Surrey so the least I could do was provide some wine and a curry. Thank you both it was an evening of inspiration and just the spur needed as I near the final straight of the wing build.
They both have pragmatic views about what should and need not be fitted to a VFR aeroplane and has given me food for thought.
