Problem - when the cut out spacers are placed in position you can't see where the match drill holes are so you don't know if they're aligned correctly.
Solution - draw lines through the centre of the holes. I discovered that the centre of the AN3 bolt hole and the nut plate rivets from the edge of the spacer is 8/32" so I drew that line then lined them up. They were held in position with double sided tape - bit messy to remove later but worth it as the result in Image 3 shows. Bottom spacer view is from rear where the rivet holes are countersunk.
People often say buidling a Vans is merely assembling, well these photos show that you have to manufacture peices as well and they do take a bit of time.
Note. The plans call for a 1" diameter lightening hole but I ony had a 7/8" cutter but as you can see from the clearance I'm quite glad I didn't use 1". Worth the effort to save such a small amount? I doubt it but all these weight saving ideas add up - more importantly it made me feel like I was buidling a plane as opposed to assembling one!
