SPINNER GAP. The final part before marking the trim line was to space the cowl 1/4" fron the spinner/backplate edge. I used some 1/4" balsa wood that I had spare. You are supposed to place the cowl 1/8" below the spinner to allow for future engine sag. However, the spinner/ cowl line is not continuous - I made it close to 1/8" - if the engine sags in the future it should help the spinner/cowl contour line. We'll see!
The eagle eyed may notice that the gap at the lower part of the cowl is slightly more than 1/4" this is due to the aft section of the cowl being supported on clecos that are holding the top skin to the firewall flange. I expect this gap to disappear when the cowl is trimmed and sits lower onto the hinge.
FLUSH TO TOP SKIN. To achieve this you mark 2" aft of the top/side skin (photo 2) and then when the cowl is in the right position (LEVEL with RIGHT GAP) you mark 2" forward of that line onto the cowl. I also marked a reference point of the top skin bottom (L) and baggage bay door (R) onto the cowl for remounting when I come to drill the hinge holes
