LEVELLING THE COWL. During the fitting of the cowls the levelling was achieved by ensuring that the 13" template centre line went through the inlets with equal distance between the two cowls. To ensure that the cowl is level on the plane and to get the right height behind the spinner I took Dan's idea.
I made two tabs with a 1/4" hole (3" left and 4 1/4" right - hit it lucky as the cowl was level!) and screwed to the baffle screw location of the forward cylinders. The height difference is due to the screw location - left is forward and the right is aft. I placed the cowl on and it protruded above the spinner by about 1/3" so I trimmed them both that amount. Worked out great (see next post for photo).
MARKING TIP: Regarding marking the cowl if you use a Sharpie it will be permanent - I tried a pencil and it works a treat and can be erased.
