Brief Description:  Pylon Racing Training Camp (PRTC) 1

After winning the British Air Racing Championship I was approached by Air Race Championship (ARC) a new Pylon/Red Bull style of racing. I could either take my own aircraft out to Ponte De Sor (LPSO) in Portugal or use one provided. I decided if I was going to be racing at around 100 ft I'd prefer to do it mine and not with an aircraft I was not familiar with.

On 12 Jan I set off from a Windy UK and night stopped in Biarritz after dodging a few CB's in France; French controllers very helpful though. On 12 Jan I planned to refuel in Braganca (LPBG) but I encountered very unpleasant rain ice about 60 miles to go so I diverted to Viseu (LPVS). Thanks to being able to send a text whilst I passed over a remote Spanish town fuel was waiting for me on arrival. I landed in a very sunny Ponte De Sor later in the afternoon and parked with a Spansih RV7 and a Portuguese RV8A.

I was not training in the first stint but was to lend my aircraft to James Stringer, whom I'd known from various RV fly-ins. Also training with James was Peter Pengilly another Brit and he and his wife Diane (mainly) run Gloster Air Parts whom I bought nearly all my tools from during the build. Cont/
