I have come to a statistical conlusion that whenever Jill attends an Air Race Weekend I do well - for this weekend that is a slight understatement!
On the Saturday I flew a fantastic race with a very small excess distance and won the Aurigny Air Services Trophy.
The Saturday evening dinner was superb apart from the fact that Wales (Jill is Welsh) beat England in the World cup and my team have subsequently been knocked out.
The Sunday Race was the iconic Schneider Trophy and the final race of the season. I flew a good race and the winner beat my by 6 seconds - well done Jon Willis in his RV6.
I knew I had raced well enough to be the European Race Champion but was shocked to hear I had won the British Championship! I thought I'd blown it at Popham and particulalry Shobdon where I was disqualified in that race. But due to the way the points are calculated my 1st and 2nd catapulted me to the top. This is without doubt the highlight of my aviation career - and all in a plane built in my garage. What a machine and what a fun organisation I have had the pleasure of flying and socialising with - thank you 3R's
