Brief Description:  Kings Cup Air Race - Shobdon 2015

Martin Gosling, the current British Champion, told me at my first race weekend in 2014 if you dont get disqualified you wont know how far to push. Well my time was up! I cut the corner on turn 2 too much and that was because I hadn't taken into account the increased height above the turn due to high terrain after the turn; consequently I turned too early. Lesson learned! Even worse though I temporarily got lost (see the southerly leg - red track!). This too was a salutory lesson and amazingly Martin did exactly the same the following day in the Kings Cup - happens to the best!

So have I blown my chances for the season? Probably

I flew OK in the Kings Cup - excess distance wise - but my handicap speed wasn't quite right so I came 10th - at least the Kings Cup is not a qualifying comp for the Championship. I expect my handicap speed to change for the final race weekend in Alderney and I need to nail the excess distance if I'm to stand a chance of winning the Championship.

Congratulations to Dastardly and Mutley (Roger and Dom) on winning the Kings Cup - their first win since starting 3 years ago and what a one to do it on - one of the top two iconic trophies in British Air Racing. Well done boys!

Despite a pants race weekend it was still FUN and that is what the 3R's is all about too.

Looking forward to Alderney.
