Brief Description:  Spinner attached

After I got the prop mounted, it was time to mount the spinner. The first thing was to attach the front spinner mounting plate. Now I have to figure out how to make a hole cutting template for making the cutouts in the spinner for the prop blades.

After checking Dan Reeves, I came to the conclusion that I needed to make my own template. I started by measuring how much material I needed to make the template (to extend from the back plate to the front plate and around a single prop blade). I then cut a piece of matte cardboard to this size. I clamped this onto the mounting plates between the blades so that I could match trim the shape of the back plate to the back edge of the template. I then measured the side to side extent of the hole that was needed and cut this out of the template material. This gave me a straight edge extending backward. I then started to slowly cut away the cardboard to match the front edge of the propeller until the back edge of the template matched up with the back edge of the mounting. I also rotated the prop using a 2x4 to make sure that there was clearance for all prop settings.

I used a tape measure to mark the spinner on either side of the parting line. I then centered the template on these two marks. I marked the spinner with the template. I used a jewelers saw to cut the straight cuts from the back edge to the outer extents of the propeller movement. This will allow me to use the remaining piece for behind the propeller. I then slowly sanded away the openings to get the clearance needed. Finally, I clamped the spinner, checked runout, marked the positions for the attachment screws, drilled holes and clecoed the spinner to the attachment plates.
