Brief Description:  Back to the Leading Edge - access plate

I had some more shop time – and while I was waiting on the tank fitting parts and the proseal to dry, I can't go any further right now with the tanks - so I decided to back to the leading edge. That will be where I need to go after the tanks are sealed completely so it's a logical next step.

There is an access hatch on the bottom of the left leading edge skin that is there to access the stall warning hardware. I am opting for the Angle of Attack instead of the stall warner because the AoA is more accurate in all airspeeds. So I really just have a big hole I need to cover...but I am going to just attach the access panal as per plans and plug the holes for the stall warner as the AoA is part of the pitot tube.

The access panel fits flush with the skin being held on with screws, There is a doubler that attaches to the skin which the access cover flush mounts to. I thought about making it useful for some small compartment, an oil container storage, etc. But then I would have to build the area up, design a better attach ststem as it would be a pain to take out/put in 10 screws all the time. Not to mention, I am not an engineer to determine weigh issues from carrying oil, etc. out in the outer part of the wing. To much pain, so I am just moving on as per plans.

So, I match drilled the VA-195 doubler, deburred all holes, cleaned the doubler and platenuts in MEK, dimpled the doubler holes, primed the doubler (allowed to dry), then riveted the platenuts onto the doubler. I will set that assembly aside and rivet it on to the L.E. skin when I get to that point.

I also devinyled the outer left skin on the rivet lines.
