Brief Description: Empennage fiberglass tips – Left side
Like I was saying about the first time you do anything – there is a lot of head scratching. Well, today I caught the left side Elevator/HS tips up to speed with where I had the right side. I did have the trim pieces cut and deburred but all that only took me 2.3 hours today versus 4.1 on Sunday. I was also able to use some of the leftover epoxy to make the gap covers. The fiberglass end caps fill in the gap in the trailing end of the HS tip as well as the VS tip. On the RV-8, these gaps must be closed. I wetted up a few layers of glass and then covered them with wax paper and rolled the epoxy all over and thru the glass removing the air bubbles. I then put a strip of peel ply over the layups and let them dry. The peel ply will soak up the excess epoxy and when the layup is dry, the peel ply will be removed to leave a nice, sand and bond ready surface.
