Brief Description: Cut HS tab for Elevator clearance
Tonight I actually did some Empennage work in the “moving forward” category and that felt good. The bottom part of the HS rear spar has to be notched to allow the elevator horn full down deflection. Great care must be taken not to cut/damage the aluminum reinforcement bar as that is the carries the load of the elevator and horizontal stabilizer. Therefore it’s a time consuming step to cut it out, radius the angles, file and smooth the cut out. About two hours’ worth, but that’s now behind me. I put the right elevator back on and it operates smooth as silk with plenty of travel. A quick check showed something like 40 degrees up and 30 down and I only need a max of 30 up and 25 down…so all good there!
