Another helpful hint from Bob was to obtain the seal retainer as extra insurance against losing the forward crankshaft oil seal. A few years back, Bob had the seal let loose on him during a cross-country flight. All ended well, with the airplane landing safely at the airport, but it could have been a different story. Since I had the seal and the short, drilled bolts in hand, I installed the seal, torqued the bolts, and safety-tied the six bolts in three pairs. The good thing about safety wire is, that if you are not happy with the results, you can redo it...which I did a few times
