Brief Description:  Firewall forward kit deletes/changes

The last of the Van's "kits" is the firewall forward kit. It isn't a mandatory kit as most people end up going it alone with what to buy but it is all that other stuff in the engine compartment that is needed. It includes things like the exhaust system, fuel lines, oil lines, baffling, throttle cable, mixture cable, prop cable, starter, alternator, etc. etc. etc.

I first called Vans and asked them for a list of what was in their FWF kit and the nice lady on the other end of the phone quickly sent me an email with a pdf copy of the list. This list is a bit overwhelming as it organized for Van's layout by part number and bag number. She was nice enough to expand out all the items for me - so now I needed to go thru and verify what each item is - and then decide if I need it or not. This will just be used as a loose guide as every nut, bolt and rivet is listed - but it doesn't necessarily tell me what the various nuts, bolts and rivets go to...so I will have to figure that part out.

I cut and pasted the pdf into word to convert it to a readable document, then I cut it into excel to put each item on a different row so I could view them item by item. Next, I made a column for price and the hyperlink to the van's website for click reference. I haven't done all the items, just the main ones at this point... I also formatted in red the items that I already have and won't need to re-order. Now the fun begins and I will decide on which parts I need from Van’s and which parts I will get from another supplier. My goal is to have all steel parts on the hot side of the firewall so substituting the aluminum for steel/stainless steel will also be part of this process.
