Brief Description:  Landing Gear Fairing #13

There are good days in the shop and bad days, but this one seemed like a catastrophe. I waited twice as long as the recommended drying time to check it, but as I pried the landing gear fairing from the gear, I was happy with how easily it came off until I realized that it was still gooey and gummy inside the fairing. The ends had expanded, set, and dried, but the middle was a gooey mess. I surmise that I shot too much into the cavity, and it did not have room & air to expand, so it didn't until I released it from the gear - then it resumed the expansion and filled the gap. At this point, I will not only need to complete the right side fairing, but I will have to clean out the left fair and then realign and re-shoot it. In the grand scheme, this is just another case of two steps forward and three steps back, and not the end of the world. But it is a bummer.

In case I haven't mentioned, Bob is coming for a visit this weekend, which is always a big boost of productivity and progress - and also the reason I have been full bore trying to get the fairings finished to get the fuse off the lift and engine installed. I have communicated with Joe M., who built an RV-14A and has graciously offered to bring his engine hoist over and help with engine installation. I let him know that it should be this weekend. I just don't know the specific day - but I was shooting for Friday night or Saturday morning. This latest setback will jeopardize that timeline.
