Brief Description: Landing Gear Alignment check #1
Happy Independence Day, America!
Having the Grove one-piece gear, the axel faces should be parallel, but better to check this now while the fuse is light and still up on the rack. I first removed all wheels, brakes, and tires and verified that the fuse was centered with the two plumb bob's on the line. I also took this time to solidify the tail lift structure and clamp it to the stand. With the fuse aligned, I attached the four-foot straight edges to the landing gear and hung two more plumb bobs to mark the line for each gear leg. Lining up the laser level on these marks makes a parallel line, or it should be, to the fuse center line. It turns out the right side is straight, and the left side is off by less than 1/8 of a degree, under what Van says would need a shim. Although the alignment is within tolerance, I want to replicate the alignment test to confirm the measurements.
