Brief Description:  CB bank - extension and organization

The RV-8 center panel is designed to be removable, and since I allowed for the avionics stack to be "disconnected" from the panel, I want to keep the functionality of being able to remove the center panel, "easily." The prevailing belief is that if one needs to do any maintenance/upgrades behind the panel, the first step would be to take out the big Garmin GDU screen, opening up a large hole in the center panel to reach in and work behind the panel. If additional room or access is needed, the center panel can be taken off and laid in a pilot's lap when greater access is desired. The access door through the baggage compartment also allows rear-entry access to the panel.

Today's session started with thinking about how much additional length the wires need to be to pull the panel off and lay it down. With that determined, I cut a piece of thin plywood and laid it on the canopy rails as a working platform. Then I cut/terminated the thick wires that bring power to the CB bank (two main, one backup) and found that the #10 backup wire was not long enough for the "remove and lay down" functionality. So, I re-cut, re-labeled, re-ran, and re-terminated that wire.

I also ran the P-Mag ground wires and consulted with Bob and Ralph in VA. regarding the CB bank and keeping the circuits happily separated with fishpaper as an additional barrier to the air gap. Thanks guys!
