Brief Description: Transponder support #6
The left U-pillar is finally drilled, and I am happy with the outcome, although it did take a while to get here. I ended up rebuilding the left pillar as the reliefs I made in the top angle allowed the horizontal surface to bow. So, a lesson learned, keep all of the angle strength by keeping the angle. On version number x+1 (whatever we are on), I had assumed that my countersink drill was still set to the proper depth - well, it wasn’t! I ruined the current left side U-pillar and had to rebuild it. So after many, many iterations of looking, measuring, confirming, and then doing it all over again, I am at the point where I can start putting in nutplates and final rivets. I also decided to rebuild the right U-pillar since the relief I had cut into the forward post was no longer needed for aesthetics and strength. Onward and upward – I hope to finalize the transponder support in the next session!
It was also cold enough that I pulled out the propane heater that Bob recommended and warmed up the shop - using it for the first time. That unit really warms up the small space in a hurry.
