Lots of head-scratching and measuring in this session and in the end, I don't want to drill any holes just yet. The right gear tower is where I plan to mount the cabin heat open/close cable as it will open when I pull on the cable and close when I push it in. For the most part, I will fly with it closed so I want it in the pushed in position. This means that I need to mount it on the right or else mount it on the left and loop it around to the other side where it will come into the valve on the right... so, back to my conundrum... There are lots of brake lines and air vent lines in the gear tower and I am not sure where the best place to have the cable run thru there...so, I will wait.
