Brief Description:  Flap Hinge Pin Keepers - Wings Done!

I worked on the flap hinge keepers on both wings tonight and got them finished. Starting with a coat hanger I worked out the bend angles and wire lengths between the bends. When that was successfully done on the prototype, I moved on to the real hinge pin material. I started with bending one end and figured if I get the bend wrong, I can just cut the bad bend off and keep going with the remaining pin material. It worked out because I made two good bends and then inserted the pin to determine how much pin I would need. Then I cut the pin at the mark. I made another bent pin like the other side of the prototype material and did cut it a little long. This was because I could not insert it fully because it contacted the aileron bracket. After a test fit, I cut it to size, smoothed the end and installed it.
With both pins installed I knew where the keepers would need to be placed. I drilled a hole in the center between two lightening holes and marked the places for the nutplate rivets. I deburred and countersunk the holes and installed the nutplate with two pop rivets. Then I cut two hinge eyes to use as the keepers. Rinse and repeat on the other wing and presto! I am completely done with the wings!
Wow! That feels good to be done with the wings. I scanned the book to make sure there were no uncompleted steps, and confirmed that, yes, I really am done with the wings! Since I am done with the wings I went ahead and covered them with the tarp after protecting the hinge that extends out past the inner wing. You can see the bumps on the near side of the tarp covered wings.
