Brief Description:  Nav / Strobe wingtip wiring

The Nav/Strobe lights in the wingtips are called, "noisy" due to the pulse of electricity for the strobe light and because the wires are, they need to be shielded. Shielding reduces electrical noise and reduces its impact on signals and lowers electromagnetic radiation. Shielding prevents crosstalk between cables near each other.

With shielded wire, the terminals are installed a little differently. First, you cut the outer insulation to reveal the shielding braid, then you cut the shielding back to where you need it, revealing the other conductors (wires). Then, using a solder sleeve (literally a sleeve that has solder that melts when you heat it with a heat gun) you insert a ground wire and heat the solder sleeve, which solders your ground wire to the shield. Then it's just a matter of stripping the wires and crimping on the connectors as usual. The 3 conductors (wires) are colored white, white w/red stripe and white w/blue stripe - so I also labeled the wires as to which color stripe they have and which wire is which so that when I get to the other end of the wing, I will know what wire is for what connection.

I also have some questions in to AeroLED to see if the landing/taxi light wiring needs to be shielded...I don't think so as the wiring diagram doesn't show that it's needed, but we will see.
