Getting the bottom sides of the tips smoothed out with the fiberglass slurry mix will require me to dis-assemble the empennage to make it easier to get to the bottom sides tips. The rudder was already removed so I removed the vertical stab - then the elevators, then the horizontal stab.
I also read a thread on the VAF about not having the lower nuts/washers/bolts in the fuselage when the VS is not installed can sometimes cause the aft bulkhead to suffer stress. This is due to the aft bulkhead being supported by just a few small rivets (if the bolts/nuts/washers are not installed). To make the longer bolts fit, I installed some wood spacers. I don't see any problems with not having the bolts installed previously, but don't want to beg for trouble.
