Brief Description: Preparing Fuse Parts for Final Assembly - 8
More dimpling…. Today was the fuse skins...and the cockpit rails - lots of dimpling there. And lastly – the cuts on the longeron to make room for the horizontal stab attach bars. Very nervously I marked, then drilled the 5/16” hole in the outer side of the upper longerons and then cut into that drilled hole along the lines to make the notch. That part went well. After that, I cut off the excess at the ends of the longerons – as marked…All was good except I cut the wrong side of the left rear longeron (I cut the vertical part of the angle instead of the horizontal)...I emailed Van's about it and Ken K. said I could either just cut it off or have it welded back together - either way would be good. I spoke to some welders, but in the end didn't want to ruin the longeron trying to fix something that isn't a structural problem - so I left it.
Now all that is left is to prep and prime all these parts! Then, it's rivet time!
cut the longerons...
dimpled parts everywhere
11/07/14 - hard to see - but the errant cut ends right there
