Brief Description:  Finished and Flying

I squeezed the first rivet 4yrs ago. Now after 3 yrs of on/off building and 1 yr of hard work, Kit # 72908 is a real airplane. N155BK made her first flight today, 12/5/2010 was at the hands of my friend, Jim Cash. Had a slight heavy left wing, but was smooth as silk and rock solid. He put her thru the paces and gave his blessing. I took her up next and WOW, she is everything I had hoped for.

I wanted a simple VFR cruiser, so used a IO-360, 9 to 1 pistons, AFP injection, Bower RamAir, Emag/Pmag combo, should be putting out 190hp+. The Whirlwind 200RV prop is a work of art, smooth, quiet and fast. I wanted to stretch the look of the RV-7, so went with a Saber prop extension and Sam James long cowl. Panel is Dynon 180, Avmap, Icom200, GTX320 and Navaid A/P. Other non-standard items: left side throttle and brakes only, oversized tires. Total weight 1095# @ 80.2"c.g. I'm happy. I knew she deserved a better paint job than my shop was capable of, so I teamed up with Corky at Roberts AutoBody. We spent roughly a month fine tuning the glasswork and applying the Base/Clear coat finish. We picked the name after the paint job.

We call her "Aurora" named after the Roman Goddess of Dawn. Her name simply means "the dawn, daybreak, or sunrise". Her name may be related to Latin aurum, meaning "gold", through the shared idea of brightness. She is said to be the mother of the four winds; though this part of Her legend is Greek, one variant spelling of Her name, Aurura, has the meaning of "breeze or wind".
