Brief Description:  Modified IO-360 Air Intake - 1/5

Modified IO-360 Air Intake

Following further research with the intent to improve the aerodynamics of the nosebowl intake (refer to earlier KitLog entry (February 2016)) the decision was made to install a ram-air type intake as found on Vans's RV aircrafts. Following discussion with Will James of James Aircraft it was decided to replace the current intake with a MK 2 Filtration Kit using a K&N KA-1000 filter. The fibreglass kit came complete with backplate to suit a Bendix RSA-5 Fuel Servo, transit duct, filter and filter housing and airintake duct and included the components for the alt air door, and door return spring. Parts needed to be cut and assembled by the builder.

The work commenced with aligning and drilling the backplate to suit the fuel servo and assembly of the fibreglass components on the aircraft. This immediately resulted in the realisation that the exhaust pipe was far to close for comfort to the fibreglass components, i.e. within 1/2 inch. Thus the the next step included to modify the exhaust pipe run to achieve a satisfactory separation.
