Brief Description:  Install rudder cables

This was a fun job feeding the rudder cables from the rear of the cockpit area forward to the rudder pedals. Fortunately I had previously installed strings to pull these through the various bulkheads (not identified in the plans, but made the job easier). The cables are temporarily attached to the rudder pedal mounts. The tough job, well document on the internet, was fitting Adel clamps to a short section of plastic tube over each cable where they pass through the seat structure, involving a couple of changes of direction. It is not easy compressing the clamps, getting the bolt through, and adding a washer and nut without stuff falling into inaccessible places. Even tougher was tightening the nuts in the confined space if, like me, you don't have decent spanners. Picture 1 shows two of the clamps. Note the untidy split pin in the flaperon mixer bracket that needs attention. The plans at Section 31-11 Steps 7 and 8 secure ground wires to the seat structure. I believe two of the Adel clamps use the same holes, so I assume the Adel Clamp bolt replaces the original ground bolt. Not referenced in the plans though...

With the forward end of the cables secure for the time being, the rear ends are pulled back through the tailcone with the strings that were called out in the plans. They emerge at the top of the aft bulkhead. I have threaded a piece of coathanger wire through the fork ends to stop them falling back into the tailcone.
