Brief Description:  More canopy stuff, and some self-indulgence

Another no pics day.

First up was to put a top coat on the canopy frame, some canopy "accessories" and the undercarriage brackets. This stuff dried rather more quickly, with the help of a heat gun.

I refitted the canopy, again, and now it is looking good, apart from the front end that still requires more material to be removed.

To make progress, I found and prepped the Canopy Guide Plates that are riveted to the frame and fit into slots in a couple of nylon Canopy Guide Blocks. The frame plates are a little too far apart, so I think I will make a couple of spacers to position them closer together.

I finished the day by installing the seats, adding the seat cushions, then jumping in for a first impression of what it will be like to fly. The pedals are comfortably within range, with legs stretched out almost horizontally. The panel is a good distance away, but not too far to reach the controls. The stick movement is comfortable. The only thing I don't like is the flap lever. The spring seems awfully strong, and I kept pinching my thumb between the "button" and the shaft. I guess I will grow some thumb muscle, and get used to it. I was also surprised that he canopy is quite close to my head, in spite of Van's claims the plane is good for 6' 3" pilots. Maybe they have thinner seat cushions. I went for leather, with safety foam interiors.
