Brief Description: Prep parts for securing undercarriage
Another session of pulling nuts, bolts and washers from the "stores".
I test fitted the bolts into the brackets used to hold the gear legs to the fuselage. Some of the holes needed reaming out to remove paint etc. I spun a drill bit by hand to minimise the material removed.
Picture 1 shows the inner and outer brackets for left and right gear legs. You can also see the brake line attachments that I attached to the brackets on the right of the picture.
Picture 2 shows the Nose Fork. This required some countersunk holes and a couple of further holes needed to be tapped for screws. Nothing particularly difficult here. Must be getting confident - I hesitate to say competent ;-)
I also final-drilled out to 3/8 inch the holes in the firewall and engine mounts for the Engine Mount Standoff (Section 35-02 Step 1-2).This was tough going, through the steel. In fact my drill bit shattered as it broke through the rear of the hole. I had to use a unibit to enlarge the second hole. This was difficult to keep centred in the hole. When I was done, the bolts fitted without any "adjustment", so the holes must have been spot on. More torqueing to be done...
