Brief Description:  Upper Firewall work

Bitterly cold today, following a -4C overnight. Section 29 builds the front of the fuselage to install the panel amongst other things.

Just received a mail from Francis Donaldson, LAA Chief Engineer, today. Francis has determined that I do need to install standby instruments (ASI, Altimeter, Compass). He has been in contact with Ken Kreuger who had determined that these should go above the map box, with the possible exception of the compass which could go on the canopy.

I plan to put three 2.25 inch units above the map box. Accordingly I have ordered Winter ASI and Altimeter (proper two-pointer) and a Precision compass. This costs a cool £1200, for which I could have had a second Dynon. Apparently Ken has agreed to design and provide brackets for these, so I have written asking for details.

Back to work, the first tasks are to prepare Mid and Upper Cowl Hinges. Straightforward work, I trust....though many, self included, have made errors with hinges. Picture 1 shows the bits ready for drilling.

Picture 2 shows work starting on the Upper Firewall and the Upper Forward Fuselage Doubler. Lots of dimpling, countersinking, drilling not obvious from the picture. The "mess" on the firewall is where I removed a sticky label with some thinners. The rest is dust, which I will wipe off eventually.
