Brief Description:  Plumbing the fuel sensor and gascolator

The pipe connecting the fuel flow sensor to the gascolator (through the firewall) is just a simple S bend but gave me more trouble than the rest. In the end I had to make it three times.

A couple of the pipe flares have to be done in-situ. This is not too easy. And once done, it is not possible to remove the pipe as the flare will not pass through the bulkhead. So you must make sure everything lines up OK before taking the plunge.

All in all I was reasonably happy with my first plumbing efforts. I needed the extra 8 feet of pipe. And you have to think carefully before each move, particularly if your tools do not allow the bends to be made exactly as per the plans, as this will impact the length of pipe required. I guess you also need to think about ensuring that all swarf is removed from any length of pipe before you install it in an inaccessible position.

Mine is still just temporarily fitted, as the non-flared joins need some pipe thread sealant applied. I'm still awaiting delivery of this.

Note, my fuel flow unit is a Flo-Scan. The bolt on the inboard side gets replaced with a longer one in Section 31-03 Step 4. There is therefore no need to tighten it at this stage. It just makes life harder later on.
