This was going to be a new experience. Armed with my pipe bender and flaring tool, I had no idea how to start. I had been warned that everyone needs more pipe, so I had ordered an 8 ft length of 3/8 pipe from Light Aero Spares, so I had double the required quantity and then some. First task was learn how to use the bending tool. This seemed easy enough, but I couldn't figure out how to get the bend in the right place. I had found an internet article that didn't seem to match what my tool was doing, and that came with no instructions. After a search, I managed to find instructions for the tool I got in the Avery kit.
Next learning experience was the pipe flaring tool. I found an EAA video that was enough to get me going with some practice pieces.
First real attempt was a complicated shape that goes between the (non-existent) fuel tank and the fuel pump. I didn't spot that the plans call for work to start at the pump end. So that's reading for bottom right to top left of the page! I found out the had way, that doing it in reverse means that there is insufficient space for flaring - as the collar won't go around corners. Second attempt was better, but this time I could not get the first bend close enough to the fitting. I ended up with the bends further aft, and consuming more pipe.
Picture 1 shows where the flared pipe will attach to the fuel tank. Picture 2 shows the fuel pump with piping fore and aft.
