Brief Description: Drill roll-over bar for aft window screws
|
|
I match drilled the #40 holes through the Aft Window into the roll bar. The top of the roll bar is close to the garage roof joists, so was not too easy, perched upon a step-ladder. The sooner I can get the fuselage lowered, the better.
I then opened up the holes to the #36 final size for tapping. I had the correct tap, but my T-handle is too big for this tap, so I'll have to order another one. Another job to be deferred.
I was ready to rivet the Turtle Deck Skins in place until it was pointed out to me that I still have not completed the flaperon controls. This would be harder to complete with the skins in place, so another task deferred!
I did, however, carefully open the holes in the Aft Window with a #27 drill. With the heater on, I managed to get the room temperature to 60 degrees (F), to reduce the risk of cracking. I ensured the window was well supported under each drill hole, and had no problems, fortunately.
The weather was still fantastic, but more snow is on the way, so I whizzed up to Perth and did another tour of the mountains. Flat calm, 100 mile visibility, lots of walkers/climbers also enjoying the scenery - but they had to work hard for their view ;-)
