Brief Description:  The Wing-Tip Close-Out

I had not really been looking forward to fitting this complicated piece. Taking advice from another web-site poster, I decided it was worth the time (an hour amortised over two wings) to create little templates for every angle I had to bend the various "tabs", ranging from 16 to 116 degrees. First problem was finding something to measure angles. My wife had gone off in my car with my flying bag, so no luck there. In the end I turned to the internet and found a picture of a protractor, printed it, then laminated it. Bingo!

I then turned the plastic cover of an old insurance proposal folder to good use - see picture 1. Each triangle has one of the unique angles to which the various tabs had to be bent. Using the previously prepared bending tool (which worked great), I found it quite easy to adjust each tab so that it was parallel to the appropriate side on the template triangle, when the base was held on the flat surface of the panel. Easier done than described!

Pictures 2 and 3 show a trial fit with a small number of clecoes. No problem! It's best though to attach the panel near the hand hold first, then ensure that all of the tabs are inside the wing tip, before securing it any further.
