Well, today is the day my LAA project documentation finally arrived! Full of the usual caveats, but an acknowledgement that they are aware of and support the build of a "prototype".
I need to turn over my wing so that I can progress with the top skins. This requires neoghbourly intervention, so I decided to make a start on something else until Stanley shows up.
Picture 1 shows the bending tool I have made. I had loads of wood scraps just the right size, so all I had to do was cut a narrow slot, radius the bottom edge, and cut away the lower wood on a 45 degree angle. I used the hacksaw as the blade can produce a narrow cut. Then a bit of work with the scotchbrite wheel and a file finished the job off.
It will be used to the bend the tabs on the panel at the end of the wing. The tool itself is nothing but a slot with a radiused edge. The tabs on the end of the panel are inserted to the depth of the slot, and then bent with a radius appropriate to the thickness of the metal. That's the theory at least.
Stan showed up around 9:30 so I'll leave the use of the bending tool until later.
