Brief Description:  Tail Light

Well, (read yesterday's post) it didn't turn out so well. I was unable to punch out the center mandrel of the pop rivet, due to all the 5 minute epoxy I covered it with, so I tried to drill out the center. Unable. It just went to the side and made a hole about half in the rivet, and half in just fiberglass. I tapped the hole anyway, to see what would happen. It seemed fairly secure, but ugly off center, so I decided to start over. I mixed up some epoxy, with some cotton flox mixed in, and smeared it all over the two holes, after drilling out the pop rivets, of course. Then I smeared some more around the base of the light, put some wax on the light parts, and then pressed the light in position. When it cures, I'll go back, drill the mount holes in the epoxy, and tap the hole. Put the screws in and call it a day. That's the Van's method, anyway, so I figure it will work. There is almost zero stress on that light. If it comes loose, I can re-epoxy the hole, re-tap and rescrew. No biggie. Then I re-attached the heater duct from the baffle, that I removed yesterday to access the oil filler tube. Then I messed with my canopy lock, to see if I could get the nut a little tighter. I did, but not sure it's tight enough. I taped the brake lines onto the gear legs, from the gear weldement to the actual brakes. Finally, I put foam weatherstrip onto the inside of the right landing light, and got the lens back in place with my "masking tape" method. No residue.
