Brief Description:  Engine work, top Cowl

First, I attached the vaccum port cover. Then I replaced the ANL fuse with the correct size. Then, I started working on changing out the push rod seals on the engine, the two that were cracked. I followed Allen's advice, and got them out. Putting the new ones on was pretty easy, but then getting the rocker arms back on was very tough. I put a few calls in to Allen, and he talked me through. I ended up having to remove the hydraulic lifters, and cleaning out the oil that I had forced into them by mistakenly rotating the engine while the rocker arms were off. That filled the lifters with oil, making them almost impossible to compress, which was necessary to put the rocker arms back on. Anyway, did that and they went back on without too much trouble. It was satisfying. Then I started in on the top cowling, but cutting out the oil door hole. I ordered the hidden hinge and will install that when the cowl is almost done. I made a prop spinner spacer by cutting 4 pieces of PVC to 1.5 inches long, then I cut a round piece approximately 13 inches in diameter to simulate the back of the prop spinner. I bolted that on. That will give me approximately 1.5 inches from the gear ring to the front of the cowling. Hopefully, the spinner will match that gap properly. Then I put the top hinges on, cleco'd for now. Then I stacked up some phone books to elevate the cowl to the proper height, and test fit the cowl. Removed and drew the reference line, two inches back from the firewall, as instructed. Then, I transcribed the line onto the cowl, moving two inches forward. Then I cut the aft side, and test fit again. Lined up pretty darn good.
