Brief Description:  Battery Box

It's been a while, I know. My Dad died and I've been away, and just taking some time. If you missed an earlier post, I've reserved my N number in honor of my dad. 5-10 WM. His Birthday and initials. I'll miss you Dad. I'm glad you helped me on my plane, it means a lot to me.

On a lighter note, I received my firewall forward kit, and the remainder of my finish kit I had deleted for the subaru installation. I removed the thick HEAVY cables that ran through the plane, as well as the dual battery mount that I spent hours fabricating and installing. Oh well, water under the bridge. Its out now, and my plane already is lighter! I started on the battery mount box, by drilling the lightening holes with the fly cutter. I'm going to use one of the circles of the battery box to plug a hole I had drilled earlier, that is currently right above where the battery box goes. It almost covers it, but not quite. So, I'll drill out the platenuts I had installed there, and put in rivets in the blank holes, and the steel cover on the larger 7/8ths hole. I drilled the side supports to the box, and countersunk the holes to accept the dimples on the battery box holes. Had to dimple "out" so the rivets could be flush inside the box, so the battery slides right in, without interference. Primed and put a first coat of paint on the box itself. Came back later and put a second coat on. Riveted the nutplates on to the side supports, and then riveted the side supports to the box. Put the box away for now.

Then I started filling the hole I made earlier last month, for the battery main pass through. Used a piece of the battery box, from one of the fly cutter holes. Riveted that in place after trimming to fit, drilling, countersinking and priming. Then I made the doubler for the master contactor. Got that drilled, trimmed, countersunk and primed and then attached the platenuts. Then I installed the master contactor permanantly. Wasn't sure I would be able to get the -3 bolts to turn, it was a tight fit against t
