Brief Description:  Battery Access Door

Finally got brave enough to cut the hole in the bottom of the fuselage for the battery access door. I used a 2 inch cut off wheel in the dremel. It worked really good. Then I fabricated the doubler, which will rivet to the aircraft skin, and hold the platenuts for the actual door. Finally, I fabricated the actual door. Then I drilled, deburred, dimpled and countersunk where appropriate, and cleaned and primed. Last, I put a coat of the yellow paint on the doubler, so that when the door is off, it will be a little easier to see the edges. A lot of work for a door. But, it turned out good, and I still have an airplane to work on. I made one mistake when drilling the door, drilled an extra pilot hole, seen in the third picture, third hole from right. If I can't stand that, I'll fill the hole with a rivet. Next, I'll rivet the doubler in place, then rivet on the platenuts. The doubler and door have a little curve to them, because of the shape of the fuselage there, so I think it's best to drill and rivet everything in place, including the platenuts. Got word today that my Finish Kit is coming tomorrow, $643.33 for delivery. Ouch. Hopefully, my gear leg and mount will be in there too, but I sort of doubt it since my credit card wasn't charged for that.
