Brief Description: How big should the engine cowling door be??
Made the 1 3/4" with 3/4" flanged C-channel per Bob's instructions.
A lot of time was spent trying to determine best location for locating C-channel position that will provide the needed clearance, engine access, and have appealing lines.
The exhaust pipe on the #6 cylinder protrudes horizontally the most. Clint at Vetterman did a great job tucking things in as tight as possible. That exhaust pipe is the clearance issue that must be satisfied.
I ended up locating the C-Channel for the door a little higher than I hoped. Can still access spark plugs for removal. May have to make a special adapter for doing compression checks if I don't want to remove the lower engine cowl. If I had gone low enough to clear the exhaust pipe the door would have been too big and difficult to seal. I opted for ground maintenance issues instead of in flight cowl cooling issues.
Made .032 4130 3" strips for C-Channels and center section at nosebowl corners per Bob's instructions.
