Brief Description: Made lead counterbalance weights and installed
Today was a pain. I had lead chunks that I had to melt down. (I used my propane fish cooker and a metal coffee can - worked great) I had already made a 'dam' in both elevator counterbalance leading edges out of aluminum foil to hold the molten lead. I think the later kits come with the weights already formed, and you just bolt them in. No dice here, I 'rolled my own'. They turned out great. I slightly 'overbalanced' both elevators, and then just drilled 1/4" holes in the outboard weight on both elevators, until they balanced perfectly. I then Installed the RH elevator tip, and mixed some slurry to fill the skin / fairing gap.
