Brief Description:  Nose gear - Mount tire & tube

Decided that I needed a quick and task independent project. Seemed like a good choice to mount the tire & tube on the nose gear. Researched online, and found suggestions on VAF about using Baby Powder to allow slippage of the tube, and tire bead onto the rim. Discussed with some of the EAA 228 guys and everyone agreed, that's the way it is done.

Tried clamping the wheel halves to draw them together, but decided to just add washers to the axle and draw down enough to insert and begin the three wheel bolts. With all three bolts partially drawn down, I inflated the tube to about 45# and whacked the tread to 'shake' the bead and seat it on the rim of the wheel (#2). Then deflated the tube, and removed the axle and bearings to inspect the gap between the halves. Good thing, because the tube was caught between the inner ring of the wheel halves and would have been ruined if tightened further.

Backed off the bolts, freed the tube, inspected (#3) the tube, and tightened down completely. Re-checked visually to ensure the halves were seated. Re-inserted the axle and bearing (dry), and inflated the tire to 60# of air pressure. Will let it sit and re-check for loss of pressure in a few days, weeks, months.

NOTE: Other instructions suggested that a 'red' dot would be on one side of the tire to intdicated alignment of the valve for balance but no dot of any color was found.
