Brief Description:  Cowl Fitting - Prelim

Continued the process of preliminary fitting the cowl, and determining a workable approach to assembly.

Started today with the lower cowl which was not rising enough to even touch the firewall along the aft edge. Discovered the interference was the alternator fan was stiking the inside along the area where honeycomb material was absent, not sufficient. This appears to be a planned allowance, and a place with a blister can be constructed to accomodate the alternator. I'm sure that another brand or size of alternator could be acquired with a smaller diameter. I'll do a blister, so it was cut-out today and will be repaired later.

Setting on the floor, aligned the top and lower cowls at the overlapping areas behind the spinner, the 'round' and using the spinner as a guide, trimmed the outboard and forward seam of the inlets to position the round to be true. Then used the measure of the firewall from top edge to bottom edge as a starting point, aligned the side of the cowls to determine material overlap that could be trimmed. Determined that approx 3/8th inch of the entire lower cowl will be removed in the final position of the mated cowls. (Will trim cautiously to arrive at the fit expected by this measurement.)

Positioned the cowls on the engine, aligned, trimmed again, and reiterated for trimming the inlet alignment. Much more to do.
