Brief Description:  Engine selection

Long story made short - Found a 'prop strike' O-360-A3A on Barnstormers and evaluated the damange, potential damage and opportunity to rebuild my own engine. Acquired it and now will have to start a long process of tear-down, evaluation, and determine replacement parts needed.

The engine came from a Piper Cherokee 180 (circa 1964) and has 3180.92 Tach Time, and 680 SMOH. The first overhaul occurred in 1966 at 510 hrs since new, remanufactured by Lycoming. Puts the 2nd overhaul at 2500 TT.

Saw the prop, discarded and it was pretty well bend - consistent with the departure from the rwy during landing - and the collapse of the nose gear. The prop damage, to the untrained eye, appears to be gouged on one leading edge, and more of a dig than a bang/stop.

The crankshaft will be the biggest question - the salvage decision was based on the strike and a prelim 0.076 run-out of the prop flange. Evidence of the ring gear scraping the front of the starter housing, and a crack in the starter case, can be seen in #2. and #3.

I've contacted AirFlow Performance about a complete AFP Fuel Injection kit.
