Needed to determine if the conical engine mount is available from Vans, cost, and lead-time. Also have two other options; 1) modify the Vans DynaFocal 1 mount, or 2) modify the engine crankcase. The first choice was based on contacting the company which makes some of the Vans mounts, determine if he could modify my existing Finishing Kit mount. The second option would be more complex, requiring either an exchange of the conical crankcase or sending the conical crankcase to Divco or ECI for conversion work.
Took a few hours but Vans has conical engine mounts in-stock for $932 (WD-636-PC). Sounds like the cleanest plan.
Since I already have a DynaFocal 1 crankcase in the O-360-A3A core, it would be 'possible' to strip down the -J2A and swap the cases. Lots of work, and the -J2A is a running engine. I don't want to potentially cause a problem. The idea of machine work to change the mount design seemed impossible but VansAirForce forum mentioned that Divco and ECI both did this service. It's typically done during a major O/H, which come back to disassembly of the -J2A, which is not acceptable.
Will order the Vans engine mount and probably sell the DynaFocal 1 mount.
