Recv'ed the RV-8 VS/Rudder order from Vans today. UPS didn't roll it off the truck, and it was well packed. Surprisingly large rudder - enormous compared to the VS.
The substitution of the -8 VS/Rudder was a suggestion from Vans support because I asked about replacing the missing rudder for the project (RV-6A). They said that the -8 VS/Rudder could be ordered as a single item on "The List" or I'd have to review the plans and order every line item for the replacement rudder. They said that the -8 VS/Rudder was actually shipped with late model -6's and originally some early -7's. But that was changed and 'some' -7 owners decided to replace the -8 components, at no charge. (Although the theory was some -7 builders were selecting this option as a way to replacy their '1st attempts').
There is also a discussion on spin recovery on Van's website which concludes that there is nothing significant between the versions and the change is a 'non-issue'.
Interestingly, the kit came with 2001 dwgs that replace the recent 'udpate plans' that I just received. Dwgs 6 & 7 are the only relevant pages that need to be used (VS & Rudder, respectively). The "update" plans and the new pages contain the same P/N's but the new plans are a bit more concise.
