Brief Description:  Prelim fit - wingtips

Started by inserting the wingtips in the end of the wing and tight against the outbd rib. Of course, nothing is ever perfect on the first fit. The edge of the fiberglass was slightly more than 1/2" and this was trimmed. The next problem was the 'straight line' top surface of the wing skin with the top of the flat wingtip. Using a piece of 1/2" angle AL, it was apparently between 1/8" and 1/4" too 'high' at the outbd end of the wingtip.

The cause of this was determined to be an out of 'square' condition on the inbd edges of the wingtip fiberglass. The bottom of the tip needed an excessive amount of edge trimming to allow it to 'lower' the top surface.

Finally, the tip was attached by two clecoes to secure it 'hanging down' in the wing. At this point it was time to 'research and regroup'.

Questions include; technique for securing the tip (#6 screws and nutplates preferred), and the spacing of the fasteners. Have already decided to NOT use a wingtip comm antenna, and to go with new LED nav and strobe lights. A Vans wingtip light recess will also be used, cut into the tip.
