Brief Description:  Installation of Pitch and Roll Assembly

The aileron tube connections in the engine compartment were changed in the plans to use 4130 steel instead of aluminum. This was to take advantage of the higher melting temperature in the unlikely case a fire were to start. The aluminum could melt much sooner than 4130. However, the plans still calls for aluminum rivets and aluminum quick disconnect rod. In order the maintain the fire safe design, the rivets are being changed to SS and the quick disconnect rod is a high strength tool steel.

After ordering all the new parts, the 4130 tubes were cut for CS-126 and CS-126L. They were primed before drilling for the rivets to minimize the possibility of getting paint in the rivet hole. Rust-Oleum Etching primer and white enamel gloss has been used to paint the rods. One CS-126L has had the rivet holes drilled. Tomorrow the rivet will be set and the other tubes drilled.
