Brief Description:  Glassing the Bottom

07/15/2006 Stephen, Kenenth and I cut the glass for the bottom. I didn't have enough time to proceed with the lay up though. I have prepared the surface as best as I can; however, I will be relying on the micro to smooth out several spots including the surface around the NACA scoop and several locations around the lower longeron.
07/21/2006 Layed up the bottom with 2 plys UND at opposing 30° orientation. Layed up the reinforcing pads on the LG attach points anf the firewall. Peel plyed the side,F22, and the landing brake. I also peel plyed the reinforcments. This finishes Step 3
07/23/2006 I thought step 3 was finished. Upon inspection, I found a large amount of air bubbles that appear to be between layers of the glass. I drilled holes and filled with epoxy on many of the holes, but there are a myriad of small air bubbles that exceed the 5% of the surface criteria.
07/26/2006 Continued to try to fill in air pockets. I am about the point where I will have to sand off glass and reglass.
07/28/2006 I started to sand the glass down to the foam in several locations. Pictures on web site
07/29/2006 Finished sanding and preparing the areas for repair. Four areas that needed repair. 1) Bottom right about 2.5 to 4 feet from F22 over the marker beacon antennae. 2) From left bottom 14" toward center from longeron and 21" back from F22. 3) From left bottom 22" back from f22 back another 18" to right before the landing brake.
07/30/2006 Layed up 2 UND plys 30° on each repair area and 1 ply of BID at 45°.
