Brief Description:  Firewall Insulation and liner

All of the sheet metal was removed to prepare for installing the liner. The metal sheets were used as a template to cut the Fiberfrax with a little overlap. The major holes were cut by slicing them in quarters so that they could be fit when installed. All of the fiberfrax was placed and all of the blind nuts and studs were pushed through the fiberfrax. The material was trimmed to avoid making bumps when the SS liner was installed.

All of the liner was removed and the QF180 Fiberfrax cement was applied across the top. The cement was also applies to the inside of the Fiberfrax blanket and it was applied. All fitting was reconfirmed and minor adjustments made. The bottom and the wing spar areas were installed in a similar fashion.

The entire Fiberfrax blanket had cement applied on the outside and the SS liner was installed and the stud bolts were used to sinch it down. Most of them worked fine; however, one of the left rudder bracket studs started spinning! Arggg! Way back in an earlier chapter, these studs were installed using screws that had some wire embedded in them to allow them to act as blind studs. This one obviously did not hold. So far all of the others have held. I will have to repair this.
